Ideas for a DIY Christmas Tree

Going deep into the Christmas season, at least in the Philippine context, and being mere weeks away from December 25, many people are already preparing for the most wonderful time of the year. As early as now, thousands are flocking to malls and supermarkets to buy gifts for loved ones and Christmas decorations for the house. Some have already started decorating their houses and condos to make their condo design radiate more Christmas spirits.

In addition to this, families are looking to spend more time together. They do this through family dining at restaurants and traveling together. But one aspect of family bonding during the Christmas season that many look forward to is building the family Christmas tree. It is probably the requisite decoration for a home or condo design. Hence, every Christmas decorator tailors his/her design idea to how the Christmas tree will look like.

Unfortunately, there are many reasons as to why one would opt not to buy a Christmas tree.

One, Christmas decorations, particularly Christmas trees tend to be quite pricey. A tree itself can cost much. Adding in the Christmas tree accessories and other Christmas decorations for other parts of the house makes Christmas decor shopping a hefty expense.

Two, not every house is vast and/or spacious. Especially for condominiums, lacking the space at home but forcing a Christmas tree inside will be inconvenient rather than appealing and can ruin your condo living. But to reiterate, a Christmas tree is the one necessary decoration above all else. Having no room at the house should not discourage people from having a Christmas tree at home.

For these reasons alone, making a DIY Christmas tree makes for the perfect alternative. First of all, materials can easily be found from around the house. Two, it can fit any house. And finally, since it is not a typical Christmas tree, it is bound to be unique.

If you live in a condo in Cebu, here are some DIY ideas for your condo to mirror the Fuente Circle Christmas tree at Cebu.

Bottle Christmas Tree

A good way to recycle your PET bottles is by turning them into a Christmas tree. First, gather a bunch of green one-liter PET bottles. Second, cut the bottom of the bottle before cutting vertically until the mouth of the bottle. This is to make it look like strips. Third, heat the bottle strips to make the texture uneven. Fourth, repeat the steps until you have enough pieces. Fifth, get a tall stick with a strong base and stack the bottle strips on top of each other. Finally, add accessories such as a star, Christmas balls, and lights.

Using cut-up bottles as a Christmas tree is not only unique for your condo design, it is also beneficial to the environment.

Plastic Utensils Christmas Tree

Here is another recycle-friendly DIY Christmas Tree idea. Sadly, this takes way more time and effort, but if you are willing to see the results, this may be worth it. The most important materials for this tree are plastic teaspoons, poster board, glitter, glue, acrylic spray sealant, and other arts and crafts items. Basically, you will use the poster board to turn into a cone and serve as the base of the tree. You will then cut off the handles of the spoon, apply glitter, then spray them with acrylic sealant. Finally, you will glue them to the base.

There are so many ways to do this or many things to add to make it look more vibrant and befitting for your condo design. If you want a more detailed description, you may check it out here.

Ribbon Christmas Tree

If you have leftover ribbons, you can use them for your DIY Christmas tree. Aside from the ribbons, all you need is a glue gun and a cardboard cone. Using the ribbons, tie them into 3-inch loops and glue them surrounding the cone until you reach the tip of the cone. With only a few steps and materials, your DIY tree is complete. Since this tree is fairly small, you can make more of this and place them around the house to make your condo living have a DIY Christmas vibe.

Christmas Chalkboard Art

This DIY Christmas tree does not require leftover items. However, you do need a chalkboard, chalk, and some drawing skills. If you got all of them, doodle away and see where your creativity takes you.

Pine Branches Tree

Pine trees have such a classic and elegant design that having something of that nature in your house makes condo living so much better. Much more, you can turn something like this into a DIY Christmas tree. All you need are some pine branches held together by any vase. Decorate it with a bunch of ornaments and just like that, your Christmas tree is complete. Because it is so easy to make, the time needed to make this and then clean up when Christmas is over is dramatically less.

Copper Tree

If you prefer a minimalistic but bright design, perhaps you will fancy a Copper Christmas tree. This tree is flexible and commodious to any condo design since the size of the tree depends on the length of the copper pipes you will use. Just string them together with a copper wire and add some lights. Whether during the day or at night, this brave and bright tree design will shine.

It is true that condo spaces make it tougher to decorate for Christmas. Nonetheless, it just forces one to think out of the box more and be creative because it is not impossible to pull off Christmas at one’s condo.

With a plethora of different DIY trees available and the required materials relatively ubiquitous, it is just a matter of seeing what tree fits your condo and the installation’s degree of difficulty.
