In addition to its very simple yet vibrant impact on our lives, indoor plants are very easy to take care of, and they won’t hurt your pockets too. However, there are challenges to growing and sustaining the life of plants especially in a restricted space & wee exposure to natural sunlight. With that being said, here’s a list of sturdy, easy-care & undemanding plants that’s a perfect addition to your Condo.
Cactus
Cacti are very unique and popular plants and are great plants for beginners. Although they are widely known as desert plants, they are very able to thrive in an indoor environment. Unlike most plants, cactus need very minimal amounts of water, as they store any water they can get, which also allows them to survive through droughts.
Tip: Do avoid over-watering your cacti, as their roots rot easily. Most cacti only need to be water once or twice a month.
Aloe Vera
Like the cacti, Aloe Vera is a succulent that does best in dry conditions. It is known as a medicinal plant as its properties(i.e. gel, juice), are used as ointments because it contains anti-inflammatory & antibacterial properties. It is also widely used as creams & gels for cosmetic purposes. As it is a succulent plant, it requires little water but a hefty amount of sunlight. Note that they thrive more on indirect sunlight as they tend to dry fast when exposed to direct sunlight. So be sure to place them where they can have the presence of light as putting them on low light may weaken the plant.
Jade Plant
The Jade plant is also part of the succulent family. People enjoy growing jade plants in their homes as this plant is considered a symbol of good luck. Luckily for you as well that this plant is easy and simple to take care of. Though unlike the two succulent plants above mentioned, the jade plant needs to be watered properly, and make sure it never runs dry. Do note that you don’t always need to water it often, but just when the topsoil is dry to touch. Early warning signs that your Jade plant has too little water is that it loses its leaves or has leaf spots. You would also want to find the brightest spot in the house. This plant is a sucker for light as it can even handle direct sunlight, which most plants cannot.
Snake Plant
Don’t be deceived by its name, as this plant has been a trend and is seeing its fair share of popularity in social media, with good reason of course. It gets its name from the thin, upright leaves that curl making it look like snakeskin. Besides its “instagrammable” features, it’s also known as a low-maintenance plant that can also survive long droughts, making it perfect for new plant parents. This plant does prefer bright light, but the good thing is it can survive even when exposed and placed in lower light areas.
Dracaena
The Dracaena plant is most beneficial for your condo’s indoor air quality and is also known for its ornamental use. They are very easy to grow and are usually pest-free. They usually grow to about six(6) to ten(10) feet, so if you have a limited space you can control its height by trimming it and customizing it to your liking. These plants can be contented in a condo setting, but be sure to give them a place where it's bright and humid. Overall a very beginner-friendly plant that won’t be much of a fuss.
ZZ Plant
If you live somewhere where light may be below, and you want to add plants to your home, this baby is for you. They can withstand low-light environments and are super low maintenance. ZZ plants are also mostly mistaken for artificial plants, as even though they need so minimal care, they will always look healthy. These plants are also perfect for the workaholic and travel-heavy people as you can leave them by themselves, as it is very drought tolerant.
Birds Nest Fern
Its name is derived from the central appearance of the plant which resembles a bird’s nest. They can remind you of the tropical paradise and the breeze of the sea, as they not only look like a bird's nest but a seaweed, but growing on the land. This plant is a native in Southeast Asia, and can properly adapt to our warm and humid temperatures. What’s best about this plant though, is that it is very safe for pets, which makes it somehow perfect, especially for pet lovers out there that want to add some green in their homes.
These are only a few examples of houseplants that can add that desired ambiance and life to your homes, and the good news is there are a lot more out there. Like properties, plants are also a very good investment as they also have long-term benefits and are very likely to improve your living conditions. Also be sure to ask your local gardener or expert if the plant that you want are safe, most especially for your children your pets, as not all plants are friendly to your beloved beings.
